Washington D.C. is considered the “seat of power” for our country. And while most of the “power spots” — including the White House and Capitol — are grouped together around the National Mall, there are other sites around the city that just can’t be missed! On your way back from the basilica, swing by Union Station. Make sure to turn around right before you walk in the door — the arches outside the station frame a beautiful picture. Flags line the traffic circle and the green space and senate buildings lavishly lay in front of this hub of transportation. Once you’re inside enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the many cafes, or go shopping in one of many boutiques. You’ll be charmed by the station’s marble floors and high arch ceilings, which in some places are 96 feet high!

After a day of touring around, a nice way to wind down is to enjoy a play at one of D.C.’s many theaters. Make sure you get there a little before your show so that you can look around the building. The center has a sprawling terrace which overlooks the Potomac, offering a gorgeous view at sunset. The Kennedy Center is also located right next to the infamous Watergate apartments.
